The present invention relates to a device for selectively setting visually presentable symbols, for instance to present visually a digit selected from within the group of digits 0-9. The device includes a carrier (1) for a number of segments (2) which are disposed close to or contiguous with each other, so as to enable different combinations of adjacent segments (2) to present visually each desired digit within the group of digits. According to the invention, each segment (2) can be manually and detachably fixed to the carrier (1), and each segment (2) has a side surface coloured with a pigment which coincides with the colour of the carrier (1), whereas the reverse surface of the segment (2) has a colour which is in contrast with the colour of the segment side surface.
