Process and corresponding equipment for regenerating carbon in activated carbon filters. Heating of carbon grains under vacuum presents appreciable difficulties when conventional methods are used. This invention proposes heating through the Joule effect by passing an adequate electrical current through the bed of grains. The electrodes comprise metal sheets or grids to which numerous conducting wires or strands embedded a few centimetres into the carbon are electrically connected. This prevents blocking of the current due to condensation phenomena. Mechanical compression applied to the carbon bed can be used to adjust the heating capacity. IMAGE
