The present invention relates to a circular knitwear or hosiery machine with device for controlling the selectors. The control device comprises a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder connected to the machine support structure and containing a sliding piston whose axis is radial to the middle cylinder and whose rod projects from the hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder towards the needle cylinder. The piston rod is connected integrally to a retraction member housed in a space defined in the needle cylinder near the lower end of axial tricks in which the needles and selectors are housed. One end of the retraction member is towards the selectors, which when required approach the retraction member during the rotation of the needle cylinder, pointing towards the axis of the needle cylinder. During operation of the abovementioned piston, the retraction member is mobile along a radial direction to the needle cylinder in order to contact the selectors and cause them to pivot, in a plane radial to the needle cylinder, from an inoperative position, in which the butts of the selectors are inside their tricks, to an operative position in which the butts of the selectors project radially from their tricks.
