A rotary support device, especially for television sets, display stands or the like comprises drive means 4 designed to rotate a supporting member or plate 1 on which the television set, display stand or similar product is placed. According to the invention, the drive means 4 act on an interconnecting member 9 designed to generate a drive torque and to transfer the motion to the plate 1 mentioned above, the said transfer taking place via frictional coupling means 34, 35, 40 which are designed to maintain the connection between the abovementioned member 9 and the said plate 1 until such time as an opposing torque, if any, exceeds the abovementioned drive torque, after which the said member 9 disengages from the said plate 1 and can rotate freely.
