Process for the preparation of monolithic gels having a mullite composition and their derivatives

Monolithic gels having a mullite composition and their derivatives in the form of aerogels or sintered materials. The process of preparation provides for the formation of a polymer precursor (Al6Si2O13)n complexed with AcAc, or the like, followed by: - hydrolysis with water/alcohol solutions containing acids or bases or H2O2 or acid/H2O2 mixtures, - hypercritical drying of the gel obtained for formation of the aerogel, - heat treatment of the aerogel at temperatures between 500 and 1700 degree C to give rise to materials having controlled porosity or sintered materials.
