This invention relates to a method and corresponding plant for the biological purification of industrial and domestic effluents using as a purifying means specific colonies of filamentous or corpuscular microorganisms anchored on supports such as nets immersed in the said effluents contained in tanks. The nets are immersed parallel to the flow of effluent requiring purification and are weighted down in the vertical direction. This method and corresponding plant are suitable for effluent pre-treatment processes and/or as a single biological oxidation treatment and/or combined with activated sludge biological oxidation processes and/or as a post-purification treatment.
