METHOD FOR PRODUCING 5-arylidene hydantoins AND -ALKYLIDENSUBSTITUIERTEN

There is disclosed a process for the preparation of C-5-ethylenically unsaturated hydantoin derivatives which are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of 1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo¢4,5-b!quinolin-2-ones. The process comprises coupling an aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde or ketone or an alpha-dicarbonyl compound with a dialkyl 5-phosphonate hydantoin.
