Compositions for the treatment of water-steam systems, especially in medium and high pressure boilers comprising: a deoxygenating and metal surface passivating agent such as hydroxylamines, liquid phase alkalinizing agents such as alkanolamines and steam-phase alkalinizing agents such as cyclic amines. The compositions also comprise sludge conditioning- dispersing solutions for use in medium and high pressure systems. They comprise a catalyst which increases the rate of oxygen capture. Advantageously they comprise: diethyl hydroxylamine as a deoxygenating agent in concentrations of 5 to 26%, triethanolamine and alkanolamines and/or cyclohexylamine and morpholine as cyclic amines in concentrations from 7 to 40%, acrylic acid/acrylamide copolymers and their derivatives as sludge conditioning-dispersing solutions present in concentrations up to 10%; hydroquinone as a catalyst in concentrations from 0.1 to 0.5%.
