INOCULUM FROM ECTOMYCORRHIZAL FUNGI FORMING ENDOMYCORRHIZAL INFECTION WITH HERBACEOUS PLANTS

Endomycorrhizal inoculants for leafy plants areformed from sclerotia-producing fungi such as Cenococcumgeophilium. Living mycelia are developed in darkness for about3 months at about room temperature under substantiallyanaerobic conditions by contact with a particulate inertsupport such as perlite in a liquid growth medium for thefungus. When seeds of woody plants such as pine and ofherbaceous plants such as corn, wheat, onion and asparagus areinoculated and grown on the inoculants, endomycorrhizalinfection in leafy plant roots is induced.
