The present invention relates to a target-recognitionprocedure for a missile with a seeker head, the missile rotatingas it falls to Earth, while scanning the ground for possibletargets. The geometrical dimensions of possible targets in thedirection of the scanning track (Y-direction) and in the directionperpendicular to the scanning track (X-direction) while takinginto account the distance r between the missile and possible tar-gets are determined and compared with corresponding stored values.In order to avoid any distortion in the Y direction of the targetthat has been scanned, the invention proposes that the angularvelocity .omega. of the missile and the angle .PHI. between the axis ofrotation and the axis of symmetry of the missile be determinedcontinuously during the scanning process and image correctionvalues with which a correction of the geometrical dimensions ofthe possible target in the Y direction can be made be computedfrom these values.
