COMPOUND, PROCESS FOR ITS PREPARATION AND ITS USE IN STIMULATING SPERM MOTILITY

An anionic hydrophilic, proteinase sensitive novel compound, antibodies to the novel compound and methods for preparing the novel compound are disclosed. The novel compound has a molecular weight of less than 3,000 daltons and is obtained from a mammal. The novel compound stimulates sperm motility by increasing curvilinear velocity and lateral head amplitude and decreasing linearity of swimming track and beat cross frequency. Processes for detecting fertile mammalian eggs and sperm using the novel compound are disclosed. Methods for assaying fertility of a mammal; for identifying substances which are capable of binding to the novel compound and; for identifying substances which affect the ability of mammalian sperm to increase sperm motility in response to the novel compound, using the novel compound are also disclosed. Diagnostic kits for carrying out the methods are disclosed.
