This invention relates to a method for making a tufted nylon or polyester pile carpet and to the resultant carpet. A thermoplastic resin consisting essentially of an ethylene copolymer having at least 8 % by weight ester groups and at least 1 % by weight carboxylic acid groups is contacted with a primary carpet backing having nylon or polyester yarn tufts. The carpet may also have a secondary backing.
