KNOWLEDGE-BASED FUZZY SELECTION FOR RECOGNITION SYSTEM HAVING SEVERAL RECOGNITION UNITS

A method and device for recognizing characters on a document (20) are described. The device comprises at least two writing-recognition units (30, 40), an evaluation device (50) for evaluating the results produced by the writing-recognition units (30, 40) by means of a database (110) of rules for evaluating the sample recognized by the writing-recognition units (30, 40), a calculating device (50) for calculating the authenticity of each sample recognized by the writing-recognition units (30, 40) and a sample vector memory part (120) for storing the calculated authenticity. The authenticity is used by the evaluating device (50) to improve the evaluation results.
