In a method for conducting experimental operations on the eye it is envisaged that the eye which is cut open on its rear side is clamped in an eye holder and is illuminated by one or more lighting sources. One or more video cameras are directed into the interior of the eye from the rear side of the cut-open eye in order to make the movements of the instruments inside the eye visible to a surgeon carrying out the operation from the front of the eye on the video screen. In order to give the surgeon the impression of a retina (not present) a red light is beamed into the interior of the eye from the underside, and this simulates the retina with corresponding blood flow.
