Method for quantitatively determining non volatile components of coating means or components of coating means, other than pigments and fillers

A method is described for quantitative determination of non-volatile components of coatings or coating components other than pigments and fillers. The method is, for example, suitable for product inspection or for reprocessing of coatings in a recycling process. The coating or the coating component is applied in liquid, pigment-free form to a transparent base which is suitable for infrared spectroscopy, and a homogeneous film is formed on the latter, with at least partial removal of the volatile components. An infrared spectrum of this film is made and the quantity of components under investigation is calculated from this with the aid of the partial least squares method and evaluation of the infrared spectra of films made under identical conditions from coatings of known quantitative composition with various concentrations of the components.
