Organic germanium, Ge-132 (Bis-Carboxyethyl Germanium sesquioxide: (GeCH2CH2COOH)2O3) Is a non-toxic, physiologically active agent with interferon function and anticancer effect. There are a variety of methods for synthesizing it, but the conventional method has a difficulty in realizing the industrialization manufacturing process for mass production due to excessive use of hydrochloric acid and unstable reaction temperature. To solve these drawbacks, this synthetic method was studied to be relatively simple, yield high, and purity good. This synthesis method synthesizes trichloro hydrogermanium with tetrachloro germanium, a certain amount of distilled water, and a suitable reducing agent. Followed by the addition reaction of germanium trichloride and acrylic acid to obtain white germanium trichloride trichloride. Recrystallization of this material followed by hydrolysis in a water-soluble organic solvent yields white organic germanium (Bis-Carboxyethyl Germanium Susquioxide).
