FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing applied catalyst for ethylene polymerization and copolimerization of ethylene with a-olefins by treatment of magnesium chloride with alcohol at molar ratio ROH/Mg 0.5-2 where R C2H5-C8H17 followed by applying vanadium compound on the prepared magnesium-containing carrier in the presence of haloidorganic compound of the formula CHnCl4-n where n 0-2 at the ratio CHnCl4-n/V 10-60 mole/mole.
