A method for deriving a clutter dependent target recognition threshold in a radar system

The derivation of a target detection threshold as determined by the mean value and variance of measured values using a stored correlation rule is faulty when the amplitude values are previously quantised because mean value and variance are falsified mainly by the lower quantising threshold of the quantiser. According to the methods proposed, either the same error effects are simulated for setting up the stored correlation rule, and a correlation rule already falsified and compensating for the errors in the measured values is stored, or a correction rule taking into consideration the quantisation errors is additionally stored for the measured values of mean value and variance, by means of which corrected values for the mean value and variance are obtained, in accordance with the determination of which a target detection threshold is derived from the correlation rule.
