Sedative, analgesic or anaesthetic compsn. comprises: an effective dose of effective agent (I), capable of being absorbed through mucosal tissue, uniformly dispersed in a soluble matrix (II) which dissolves in the mouth releasing (I), and a holder secured to the drug-contg. matrix configured so as to permit insertion into and removal from the mouth when a desired condition is attained. The compsn. is esp. in the form of a lollipop.
