The invention relates to a method and a device for utilising, independently of time, the coldness of a medium available in a cold condition and utilisation of the medium itself in a heated-up condition. It is frequently the case that a cold medium is used in the same operation to supply coldness and is otherwise used as a processing medium in a heated-up condition, without the requirement for coldness and the requirement for processing medium occurring at the same time. This results in the problem that the coldness of a cold medium often remains unused. This problem is solved according to the invention in that at least some of the cold medium brought into use is used to cool a cold storage unit, from which coldness can then be independently taken.
