To decrease the SOx emission in the combustion of SOx-containing coal, some of the SOx-containing coal is to be reduced and additives are to be released directly by the combustion process. This is achieved according to the invention by biomass having alkaline metals or alkaline earth metals being supplied to a fired plant for some of the coal, the coarse ashes generated by the combustion being added as a combustion additive and/or fine ashes being added to the flue gas in the flue gas path as additive.
