Preparation of crystalline sodium silicates of melted and comminuted amorphous sodium water glass

A process for the production of crystalline sodium disilicates exhibiting the alpha modification to the extent of less than 40 %, in which molten amorphous sodium silicate reduced by milling or dividing the melt is malleableised in a water-containing atmosphere for a period of 5 minutes to 4 hours at a temperature of between 500 and 740 DEG C.
