To determine the transmutation cross section of actinides, for the transmutation of long-life actinides through splitting for nuclear disposal, the nuclei are accelerated to be transmuted in an inverse kinematics through collision with lighter nuclei. The fragments are measured for magnetic rigidity, flow time and energy loss, for the particle count to give the transmutation cross section. A prototype for all actinides is simply the isotope 238U or 232Th, with the nuclei accelerated to an energy of 1 GeV/unit. The lighter nuclei are 12C, 9Be, 2H or 1H.
