Photometric instrument with optical fibres for analysing a number of remote samples, such as spectro-photometer

In the spectrophotometer, each of a number of source optical fibres (58) is selectively receptive of source radiation and carries the radiation to a corresp. selected liquid cell (68). A corresp return optical fibre (72) returns transmitted radiation from the sample to a polychromator. For selecting a sample, a switching member (100) holds exposed ends of the optical fibres on a circle coaxial with an axle for rotating to selected positions. Respective optical series in the instrument direct into and out of the selected pair of fibres. The dia. of a source aperture (90), the spacing of the aperture from the radiation source (12), and the source area (96) define a source space, which is same as that which the optical fibres have.
