The shovel excavator has a superstructure slewing on a first vertical axis on the understructure, while a boom (6) slews on a second vertical axis in a bracket (7) on the superstructure. The slewing mechanism comprises a hydraulic ram coupled by a link to the bracket. The bracket is coupled to the boom by a crank mechanism (9), for slewing between a front working end position (A), inclined to the long axis (18) of the machine (i), round the second axis (8), and the travelling position facing rearwards w.r.t. the travel direction (F), in which it is parallel to the long axis and to the side of the superstructure.
