A procedure for analysing samples by means of atomic absorption spectroscopy with electrothermal atomisation of the sample consists of the following procedural steps: (a) introduction of a liquid sample into a furnace, (b) heating of the furnace to a drying temperature to dry the sample, (c) subsequent heating of the sample to an atomisation temperature at which a cloud of atoms in which the constituents of the sample are present in the atomic state is formed in a furnace, and (d) measurement of the atomic absorption of a measuring light beam passed through the cloud of atoms using resonance spectral lines of a required element in the sample. In this procedure, (e) during the heating of the furnace to the drying temperature, the vapours formed in the furnace are sucked off by an underpressure.
