Gas filled suspension element for tools for chipless forming has a self-lubricating device in the form of a lubricant supply, which is located in an annular space (9) between the piston (1) and the cylinder (3). The annular space (9) is sealed off fluid tight both from the surroundings and from the compressed gas. As a result the lubricant loss is extremely small. The lubricant supply can be controlled and if necessary supplemented by way of ducts (6), closable by threaded plugs (5). One of the threaded plugs (5) has a pressure relief valve (11), which in the event of a leakage on the seal (4) of the piston (1) allows excess compressed gas to flow off. The pressure relief valve (11) thereby serves as leakage indicator, especially if, in order to render the escaping gas visible, a bubble-forming liquid film, for example in the form of a leakage spray, is applied in the area of the discharge aperture.
