The thickness measurement device has a measurement head (2) which operates on a capacitive basis and an evaluation device (7) which processes its measurement values. The measurement head has at least one associated blower nozzle (5), which sets up such a pressure characteristic between the head and the product (1) that the distance between the head and product remains constant. The measurement head is preloaded in the direction of the elongated product and has a guide (3) holding it to be relatively movable along the direction of the product and is supported on the product by an air cushion formed by the dynamic pressure.
