The method involves a means of transport (4) which can be displaced from a rest position under a means of transport upstream (3) of the exit of the provision source (1) into an exit position superposed over the means of transport downstream (5) of the entry (2) of a transformation unit. The flow rate of the means of transport may vary simultaneously or separately, the sudden increase in the flow rate of the displaceable means being associated with its displacement in order to compensate for a momentary absence of supply. The device quoted as an example consists at least of three conveyor belts (3), (4) and (5), arranged in cascade. Driving is provided from downstream towards upstream by the motor (12a) of the belt (5) which transmits the movement to the belts (4) and (3) by chains (14) and (13). The driving of the unwinder (1) is provided by the motor (12b) which can also control the belts (3) and (4) by virtue of the meshings of the pinions (23) and (16) and of the free wheels of the pinions (15) and (22).
