Thermoplastic polymer comprises at least one unit of formula (I), at least one unit of formula (IIA) or (IIB) and at least one unit derived from a monomer of formula (III).In (II) R is H or a 1-4C linear aliphatic hydrocarbon; R1 is phenyl of formula (i); or -C(O)-OR3; R2 is H, 1-4C opt. branched aliphatic hydrocarbon or halogen; R3 is H or 1-12C opt. branched aliphatic hydrocarbon; R4,R6 are each H or 1-6 (1-3)C linear aliphatic hydrocarbon; R5, R7 are each H or -C(O)-OR3; m,q are each 0 or 1; n, p are each 1 or 2; X is O or NR8; and R8 is H, 106C opt. branched aliphatic gp. 4-7C cycloaliphatic, phenyl or halogen.Polymerisation is pref. in soln. pref. using (I)-(III) in different amts. and using a radical initiator.
