Automatic portable machine for grinding the welds and/or the refilling zones of railway rails (R), in which the grinding tool (16) is carried by an assembly which moves in a plane perpendicular to the rail and which comprises longitudinal guide means (6, 7), the grinder (16c) being a flat disc with rounded edge which works the side in essentially point fashion.
