Apparatus for spreading sails which comprises two levers formed by a handle (70), an arm (72) and a tube (75). The arm has lips which fit in a cavity (71) and turn around this. The handle (70) is connected to a sail (not shown) by a textile band which passes through an opening situated behind a transverse bar (78). When the handle (70) pivots moving away from the tube (76), which normally exerts pressure on the end of a batten, no tension is exerted on the sail. When the handle (70) presses against the tube (75), it is fixed on the external face of the tube and the batten is pressed inside its pocket and spreads the sail. The tension thus applied can be regulated by screwing or unscrewing the arm (73) inside the tube (75). IMAGE
