The hydraulic press of the invention has two slides 2, 3 which can move with respect to each other under the action of actuating rams 4a, 4b. These slides comprise a slide core and a slide square, in contact with the forming tool. At least one of the slide squares consists of a plurality of segments 14a, 15a, 15b, 15c, 14b. The ends in contact of two juxtaposed segments are supported by a compensating ram 17a, 18a, 18b, 17b, which bears on the slide core. The press also includes means for measuring the deformations of the slides, comprising reference beams 9; 10 and sensors 11a, 11b, 11c, 12a, 12b, 12c measuring the distance between the beams and the said slide.
