The invention relates to a method for enabling the dialogue between a user and a household appliance comprising a microprocessor (2) managing instruction data previously introduced in a memory (3). BR/ According to the invention, this method consists in: BR/ identifying in a catalog of instruction data a code appropriate to a chosen instruction data item; BR/ - to introduce by a user-device interface (4) said code into the microprocessor (2); BR/ - processing said code to correlate the corresponding instruction data; BR/ - extracting from the memory (3) the instruction data corresponding to said code; BR/ - to transmit said instruction data to the user by means of a sound or visual translation device (5).
