An electronic gas switch including two hollow electrodes (22, 24) each comprising at least one hole (26, 28). The two electrodes are arranged in a gas discharge chamber (30) containing a discharge gas at a pressure (p), and each hole of at least one of the electrodes is opposite a hole in the other electrode. A discharge initiating assembly (32, 34, 36) includes an element made of a dielectric material (32), a triggering electrode (34) in the region of the dielectric element, and a metal grid (36) in the region of one surface of the dielectric element, said dielectric element being located between the triggering electrode and the grid.
