P The approach stroke cylinder comprises a cylinder (1) provided with front (2) and rear (3) cylinder heads, a master piston (4) with a cylinder rod (5) which passes through the front cylinder, and an auxiliary piston (6) which slides on a guide (31) between the rear cylinder head (3) and a stop (34a). If a pressurized fluid is introduced between the auxiliary piston (6) and the rear cylinder head (3), the auxiliary piston (6) pushes the master piston at the end of the approach stroke until it bears against the stop (34a ). If the fluid is then introduced between the pistons (4, 6), the master piston (4) completes its full stroke. The position of the stop (34a), constituted by the rear edge of a sleeve (34) is adjustable, the sleeve (34) being fixed to the end of an extension (32) screwed more or less deeply into the guide (31).
