METHOD FOR SETTING SERVICE LIFE OF ENDLESS BELT FOR TWIN BELT TYPE CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINE

PURPOSE: To prevent the development of casting flash on a cast strip by measuring the height of edge wave at the edge parts in the width direction of a belt and whether the crack exists or not at the position of an endless belt abutted on a pulley and deciding the service life of the belt. ;CONSTITUTION: The endless belt 1 is abutted on the pulley 3-2. The variation of eddy current developed in the endless belt 1 is detected by the electromagnetic induction of a proximity sensor 11 and the height (t) of the edge wave and whether the crack exists or not is measured. When the height (t) of the edge wave reaches the preset upper limit value, or when the crack develops on the endless belt 1, it is decided that the service life of the endless belt 1 comes to the limit. The preset upper limit value of the height (t) of the earing wave is defined to be 0.1-0.3mm. In the case of largely exceeding the upper limit value of the height (t) of the edge wave during operation, or in the case of detecting the crack, the operation is stopped. By this method, the accident, such as flow-out of molten metal, cut-off of the endless belt 1, can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
