DEVICE FOR ACCESSING LINEAR SERPENTINE TAPE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read/write information consecutively without joint. ;SOLUTION: The device is a device to read/write digital information from/ onto a linear serpentine tape that connects to a tape drive 308 to control a tape moving speed. The tape 312 has lots of tracks and each track has a physical end. The device is provided with a buffer memory 304 electrically connected to the tape and a controller 306 connected to the tape drive 308. Access to the tape is interrupted in the vicinity of an end of one track during write in the tape 312, and the controller 308 stores the information to be written onto the tape tentatively to the buffer memory 304 so as to prevent write of information onto the tape from being interrupted. In the case of reading information, when read from the tape 312 is started, the buffer memory is nearly fully occupied based on the information from the tape 312. In the case of access to the end of one track, the access to the tape 312 is interrupted and the controller 306 reduces tentatively the information having been stored in the buffer memory 304 based on the information read from the tape so as to prevent read from the tape 312 from being interrupted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
