INTEGRATED SYSTEM OF GROUND SURVEY AND SATELLITE POSITIONING

PURPOSE: To measure the survey parameters, e.g. the distance or angular displacement between survey points, accurately by combining a differential satellite positioning system (SATPS) utilizing a positioning system with an electromagnetic measurement of distance or optically encoded angle through a known electrooptical survey instrument. ;CONSTITUTION: An SATPS signal antenna 21 transmits SATPS signals from two or more satellites and the signals are analyzed before being delivered to a receiver/processor 23. The processor 23 identifies an SATPS satellite and determines a moment of time when the signal arrives at the antenna 21 thus determining the current position of SATPS signal antenna. A reference survey point 11 determines the difference among three positional space coordinates and/or local time coordinates and transmits the difference of coordinate through first and second communication antennas 25, 41. A movable survey point 31 measures the position of a second SATPS antenna 37 with respect to the position of antenna 21 accurately based on the measurements at reference survey point, the positional information of movable survey point and the measurements of a local SATPS.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
