PURPOSE: To provide an interactive drawing input method which can flexibly deal with various segment types and also with unstable segments due to the blur, etc., can reduce the labor/time and the cost needed for construction of a system, and also can stably extract the graphics in the actual input jobs. ;CONSTITUTION: A drawing image is hierarchically divided toward the fine parts from the rough ones (steps 2 to 4), and the closed areas enclosed by the black pixels are extracted (step 5). All closed areas extracted in a specific hierarchy are registered as the basically closed areas (step 8). The enclosure relation is checked between the basically closed areas and the closed area extracted in the subsequent hierarchies which are finely divided, and the closed areas that are joined to the external areas are detected and invalidated (step 7). The valid areas are registered again as the basically closed areas (step 8). Then the probability of attribute is calculated for every unit graphic and a drawing is shaped and produced again after the attributes are given to all unit graphics (steps 11 to 15).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
