PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expose a high pressure reservoir to the rear end of a piston immediately at the valve release time by providing a high speed piston release valve, in the free piston shock tube/tunnel for generating an aerodynamic test state for the tip cone of a rocket and ultrasonic passenger plane. ;SOLUTION: In a shock tube/tunnel, having a slender compression chamber 10, to whose right end the slender shock tube is properly connected through a connection collar, inside the compression tube 10 provided from a piston end 18 to a diaphragm end 19, a drive gas such as helium capable of a nearly constant adiabatic expansion is filled during the moving of a piston 11. A closed head 24 and the valve assembly 25 with a high speed are provided on the piston end 18. The valve assembly 25 has a valve sleeve assembly and valve body assembly and by expediting the high pressure flow from a high pressure reservoir 20 to the rear zone of the piston 11, the piston 11 is released and the shot of the piston 11 is started.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
