METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING CONDUIT SECTIONAL PATTERN OF GRAIN OF WOOD AND METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING THIN AND LONG PARTIALLY OVERLAPPING PATTERN

PURPOSE: To recognize a single conduit sectional pattern from sectional patterns of the natural grain. ;CONSTITUTION: A cut surface of natural wood is photographed to obtain a binary image of many conduit sectional patterns. This binary image is fetched into an XY coordinate system which has the length direction L of the patterns as its Y axis, many pixel lines which are parallel to the X axis are defined, and horizontal segments consisting of successive pixels showing the inside of pattern on the respective pixel lines are recognized to define plural sections A-G along the Y axis according to positions where the number of horizontal segments changes as borders. As for merged sections D and F meeting three conditions that the number of horizontal segments is 1, that another section where the number of horizontal segments is 2 is adjacent, and that there is a horizontal segment connected to two horizontal segments belonging to the different section at the border of the different section, a process for separating horizontal segments of each pixel lines into two horizontal segments A, B is performed and the original closed area is recognized while being separated into two conduit sectional patterns.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
