PURPOSE: To multiplex-transmit the signal of transmission speed except for transmission speed to which a stuff insertion circuit corresponds. ;CONSTITUTION: When the signal of transmission speed 2f₁ twice as much as prescribed transmission speed f₁ is inputted to a transmission part, a division circuit 40 divides the signal into the signals of two transmission speeds f₁. Stuff pulses are synchronously inserted into the two signals obtained by the division circuit 40f in memories 40g and 40h under the control of a stuff control circuit 40i. Then, a mutliplex circuit 42 multiplexes the signals into one high-order group signal with the other signals so as to be transmitted. In a reception part on the other hand, the arriving high-order group signal is separated into four signals, and the stuffed pulses are removed from the two signals and the two signals are synthesized into one signal of transmission speed 2f₁ when the two prescribed signals among the four signals are those obtained by separating the signal of transmission speed 2f₁ into two signals.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
