PURPOSE: To easily set a critical quantity of incident light generating no stimulated Raman scattering and measure the temperature distribution with high accuracy and high S/N. CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber type temperature distribution measuring apparatus 10 comprises a set quantity of incident light deciding section 7 having a function for measuring the quantity of stimulated Raman scattering light at least twice, while varying the quantity of incident light when the quantity of incident light is set higher than a level generating stimulated Raman scattering and determining the quantity of incident light based on the measurements, and a section 6 for setting a quantity of incident light based on the output from the deciding section 7.
