According to the invention, in stuffing sausages in a string and for dividing into single sausages or into groups of connected sausages, it is possible to alter the division, regardless of the length of the sausages and the number of sausages connected in one group in a simple manner whilst retaining exact division, in that the division takes place by dividing elements which circulate in the direction of transport in opposite directions and synchronously on a circular path in each case and whose circulating speed is variable during their non-functional circulation, but is adapted to the sausage-transporting speed in the engagement region. The device required for this purpose is characterised in that the drive of the separating apparatus (25) is connected to an electronic or hydraulic control which regulates the rotational speed of the drive during circulation and comprises two drive shafts (19) which are arranged spaced-apart in parallel, are located in each case opposite the string of sausages, rotate synchronously in opposite directions, are arranged transversely to the direction of transport of the string of sausages and have in each case a dividing arm (20) projecting radially therefrom, which dividing arms interact by coming together during the dividing operation and thereby come into engagement in the manner of a serration with the respective constriction between two sausages. …IMAGE…
