PURPOSE:To obtain a drug exhibiting excellent remedying effect against intractable chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, having low toxicity and little side effect and applicable over a long period by oral administration, by using a physiologically active substance extracted from a pox tissue as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains, as an active component, a physiologically active substance extracted from a pocked animal cell, cultured cell or cultured tissue of an animal vaccinated with vaccinia virus, cow-pox virus, etc. The agent exhibits the effect not only to a steroid-dependent patient of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura but also to an intractable patient to whom steroid treatment is inapplicable. The agent promotes the increase of platelet only in the case of abnormal decrease of the number of platelets and approaches the number of to the normal range.
