PURPOSE:To easily generate a random pulse train according to the poisson distribution by controlling a pseudo photon pulse generating means based on a comparison output between a pseudo random number analog output and a function signal. CONSTITUTION:A pseudo random number generating means 4 generates a pseudo random number synchronously with a clock output of a clock pulse generating emans 2 and its output is converted into an analog signal by a high speed DAC 8. On the other hand, a function generator 14 outputs a predetermined function waveform synchronously with a trigger output of a trigger pulse generating means 12. A comparator 16 compares level of wo signals and outputs a binary signal in response to the result of comparison. The pseudo photon pulse generating means 29 outputs a pseudo photon pulse having a narrow width synchronously with the leading or trailing of the comaprator 16. The output waveform of the function generator 14 is set similar to the pulse generating state of a photon pulse obtained from an actual photomultiplier.
