STANDARD SAMPLE FOR EVALUATING ULTRASONIC PROBE AND EVALUATION METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To obtain a standard sample for evaluating an ultrasonic probe accurately by bonding first and second inclining faces having identical inclination angle and equal acoustic impedance such that the interface does not appear on the bonding face by providing a plurality of artificial defects on the first inclining face in the inclining direction thereof at a predetermined pitch. ;CONSTITUTION: Metal plates 11, 12 have flat faces (a), (c) and flat faces (b), (d) inclining at an identical angle against the faces (a), (c), respectively, and the faces (a) and (c) become parallel with each other when they are bonded. Artificial defects 13a,..., 13c are arranged, at a predetermined pitch, on a line I-I along the inclining direction of face (b) of the plate 11. The face (b) of the plate 11 provided with a group of artificial defects 13 is then superposed on the face (d) of the plate 12 and bonded each other through hot press thus producing a sheet of standard sample 10. The hot press causes diffusion of particles on the interface thus eliminating acoustic interface therefrom. In the sample 10, the deepest defect 13c is formed at a position deeper, at least by the thickness D2, than the face (c) on the bottom of the sample 10.
