PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition, containing an aqueous dispersion of a vinylic copolymer having specific side chain groups and a silica sol, capable of forming films excellent in transparency, adhesion, hardness, etc., at normal temperatures or by heating at a relatively low temperature and useful for coating an inorganic porous substrate. ;CONSTITUTION: This composition contains (A) an aqueous dispersion of a vinylic copolymer having at least one each of (i) hydrolyzable silyl, (ii) an amine-imide and (iii) a 6-30C alkyl and/or an 8-20C perfluoroalkyl as side chains in one molecule and (B) a silica sol and preferably further (C) a curing catalyst. The group (i) is a readily hydrolyzable reactive group of the formula Si(R¹)_a(R²)_3-a. (R¹ is H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.; R² is a halogen, an alkoxy, phenoxy, etc.) and preferably an alkoxysilyl.
