PURPOSE: To further improve the antenna pattern beam compressing ability in a method for compressing antenna pattern beam of radar using the principle of a multiplication type array. ;CONSTITUTION: An antenna system is constituted of a main antenna 1 which is used for both transmission and reception and auxiliary antenna 2 which is used for reception only and the antenna beam of the antenna system is scanned in the width direction of the beam to be compressed. Then, the signals received through the antennas 1 and 2 are inputted to a signal processing/ multiplier circuit 4 and subjected to multiplication after converting the signals into electric power signals. At the time of the multiplication, the received electric power signals are multiplied by each other and, in addition, by the cosine value of the phase difference between the electric power signals received through the antenna 1 and those received through the antenna 2 only when the cosine value is positive.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
